Columbus, Ohio, The Columbus Gallery of Fine Arts, Sir Thomas Lawrence as Painter and Collector, October 7 - November 13, 1955, no. 13.
Framed: 27 1/2 x 23 1/2 in.
Moderate deposits of surface dirt and dust. Lines of inpainting in the woman's cheek, neck, and hair, with a small scuff mark to the bun. An approximately 3 1/2 x 7 inch area of inpainting to the lower neck and background below, visible under raking light. Additional strokes and small spots of inpainting in scattered areas throughout. Frame abrasions and paint losses along all edges, as well as paint losses in the corners that indicate the painting may have once been in a rectangular frame due to their shape. Framing materials adhered to the varnish along the upper right edge. The ovoid portrait area has a matte luster, with the outer corners under a highly reflective varnish. Under UV light: the aforementioned areas of inpainting fluoresce. Lines of inpainting around the paint losses in the corners. Additional images available upon request.
